The family
From Tainan, as a family
In Tokyo's Nishi-Ikebukuro, a Tainan-born owner and her family run a Taiwanese vegetarian (su-shi) breakfast house. No meat, no fish, no alliums — about fifteen handmade dan bing, savory soy milk, vegetarian lu rou fan. Weekends from 7:30; Wednesday through Friday on weekdays.
Born in Tainan. Twenty years of vegetarian living, thirty-four in Tokyo. In May 2019, TSUMUGU CAFE opened its doors; since March 2021, mornings belong to Taiwan Breakfast Heaven.
The interior was designed by the eldest son. Dried flowers, solid wood walls, light falling through the skylight. The illustrations and packaging come from family hands too.
Morning prep starts early. Breakfast-shop work is a matter of stamina.
No meat, no fish, no alliums
No meat. No fish. No pungent roots. This is Taiwanese vegetarian cooking — su-shi — and it holds its own at the table. These are everyday dishes, the kind that keep chopsticks moving. Some plates use egg or dairy; for vegan requests, just ask. You don't have to think about any of it. That's the way of this kitchen.
The family's drawings
The red-line family drawings line the walls, wrap the packages, fill the Instagram feed. Seasonal scenes, happy announcements, snapshots of the day — the pictures tell the shop's story before a single word.
